Fast and economical route to improving usability

Expert Usability Reviews

Expert usability reviews of websites capture at least 70% of usability issues experienced by users.

They are a fast and economical route to improving the usability of a website and repay the initial investment cost very quickly.

RedEye optimum.web’s approach to expert reviews delivers recommendations which are highly reliable and based in extensive HCI and Internet experience. It brings you the benefit of our observations of hundreds of people interacting with web interfaces.

Expert Usability Report

Our reviews are always conducted by more than one expert (typically three) in order to maximise objectivity and richness of findings.

Evaluations are based around key user tasks, and we make sure that heuristics referenced by the experts are relevant to those tasks, rather than simply assessing designs as a whole against standard heuristics.

This approach enables us to focus on key issues. Specific tasks and heuristics are developed in consultation with the client to align with business objectives, customer knowledge and reporting needs.

The heuristics referenced by the experts will usually fall under the following categories:

  • Navigation
  • Structure and labelling
  • Visual affordance
  • Process flow
  • Task initiation and completion
  • Language
  • Error management
  • Consistency and standards adherence
  • System performance
  • Brand experience

Each consultant will complete his / her own independent review using a tailored instrument. All three will then meet and their separate findings will be collated and analysed.

Rather than scoring directly against heuristics in our reporting, we typically report back on key issues/problems identified, and these are graded according to severity.

This focus on key issues enables us to deliver prioritised, relevant, actionable recommendations that will deliver the greatest improvement to the user experience, in a form which is easy for clients to follow.
